Online exhibition

Galerie de la Béraudière is pleased to present its first virtual exhibition dedicated to the importance of medium and material in modern and post-war art.

In this selection, you will find surrealist painters such as Max Ernst (1891-1976) or André Masson (1896-1987) who explored new treatments of the surface allowing them more spontaneity, or even « matterist » painters of the post-war period like Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985), Jean Fautrier (1898-1964) or Antoni Tapiès (1923-2012) who rejected established cultural values and used all kinds of unusual materials such as sand, gravel, tar, asphalt, etc. They saw art as a creative process whose viewer must be able to relive the elaboration thanks to the traces left by the artist: scrapings, incisions, prints, etc. Viewers also had to feel an emotion in front of the power of the gesture and the treatment of the matter.
