From Armand Rassenfosse to Marcel Broodthaers

On the occasion of Rendez-vous Brussels Art Week, which will take place from September 10 to 13, 2026, Galerie de la Béraudière invites Virginie Devillez Fine Art to present the exhibition From Armand Rassenfosse to Marcel Broodthaers.

The exhibition will highlight a rare work by Marcel Broodthaers (1924–1976), Culture Internationale, Lucky Luciano (1974), as a conceptual and literary take on the fascination of Pop artists—particularly Andy Warhol, with his Most Wanted Men series—for gangsters.

Marcel Broodthaers also had a deep interest in literature, having begun his career as a poet, writer, and critic. Exploring the labyrinth between word, image, and thought, he continuously deconstructed the texts of his favorite authors (Stéphane Mallarmé, Charles Baudelaire, Isidore Ducasse, known as Lautréamont) and re-presented them within a shifted, unconventional space.

Exhibiting him alongside Armand Rassenfosse (1862–1934) is therefore far from incidental, as Rassenfosse produced a significantnumber of illustrations for 19th-century authors, most notably for Les Fleurs du Mal by Charles Baudelaire and Les Diaboliques by Barbey d’Aurevilly.

Works by Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859–1923), the committed anarchist artist and illustrator, will be presented alongsidethe conceptual practices of Marcel Broodthaers, as well as those of stanley brouwn (1935–2017) and John McCracken (1934–2011), within the unique atmosphere of the Galerie de la Béraudière, formerly the studio of Liège-born painter and illustratorCharles Michel.

The presentation by Virginie Devillez Fine Art will be arranged in this space, where key artists of Galerie de la Béraudière will alsobe featured, including works by Germaine Richier (1902–1959), Max Ernst (1891–1976), or André Masson (1896–1987).
