Aristide MAILLOL

Aristide MAILLOL

Born in 1861, Aristide Maillol was a French painter, engraver and sculptor who died in 1944.

It is only towards the age of 40 that Aristide Maillol devoted himself fully to sculpture, giving up the decorative arts.

The female nude was his favourite subject.

His simplification of forms represented a genuine revolution for his time and had a profound influence on the next generation of sculptors.
